rewatching the last episode of merlin and - when arthur dies, he doesn’t have his camelot cloak on. this means merlin had to hold him as he put it on arthur’s lifeless body.
to make this even worse - it probably made him think of the countless other times throughout the years he put that same cloak on arthur. only it was a live arthur who looked at him irritatedly when he struggled with the clasps that first day, or smiled fondly at him later on when merlin’s hands would linger just a little longer than was necessary.
